Brad Mills founded Lightspeed Welding in 2023 with one purpose: expedite the procurement and implementation of handheld lasers in Western Canada.

Demand for welding keeps growing. The pool of skilled welders keeps shrinking. That arithmetic ends in the same place for everyone — higher costs and longer lead times, for shop owners and for the customers waiting on their parts.

Handheld laser welding is the most direct answer we have found. The LightWELD from IPG Photonics, the global leader in fiber laser technology, is a handheld laser welding and cleaning system that delivers faster, stronger and more repeatable welds across a wide range of materials, thicknesses and joint geometries, even in the hands of a novice operator. It does not replace a good welder. It gives a good shop more capacity than its headcount would otherwise allow.

Why buy it from us

We are an authorized IPG Photonics reseller based in Carstairs, Alberta, and that geography is the point. IPG does not ship to Canada. The nearest alternative is a phone call to Quebec. We hold stock in Alberta, which means a worn liner or a cracked protective window is a next-day problem rather than a next-week one.

We also stay involved after the crate is opened. Demos on your parts and your materials, operator training, and consumables and spare parts on the shelf when you need them.

Where we work

We serve Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Most of Western Canada is one to two days out from our door on ground freight.
