Laser welding is a precision process that requires clean optics. Protective Windows (often referred to as cover slides) are designed to protect the LightWELD‘s focusing lens from contamination. This consumable item should be inspected frequently and replaced as needed. The lifespan of protective windows is application dependent. They can last a very long time when welding clean material, and wear out quickly when removing rust on high power cleaning mode.

Laser welding requires precise focal point control. Traditionally this focal point precision was achieved with the help of robotics. The LightWELD allows human operators to easily maintain focal point precision with nozzles that are meant to contact the workpiece throughout the welding process. Since heat is transferred between the workpiece and the nozzle, this consumable item will degrade over time. Similar to protective windows, the lifespan of welding nozzles is application dependent. Welding thicker material at higher power and slower travel speeds will degrade the nozzle faster than thinner materials that can be welded at lower power and faster travel speeds.
